Diverter valves are used to divert the water from one source (the tub spout) to another (the showerhead). Transfer valves control the water temperature by allowing you to adjust both hot and cold taps independently.

If your home has a combi boiler, it prioritizes the water flow in your home’s system, depending on the water source you use at a certain moment. The diverter valve is an essential element of this system because it controls the water flow through your home’s showerheads, taps, and heating system.

When the diverter valve is open, water flows directly through the faucet and into the tub. However, when you want to take a shower, you lift the knob or lever to close the diverter valve. This creates pressure, forcing the water flow upward and out of the showerhead.
